I'm sure that's because in order to bring a civil suit, they first have to file a claim with the school district board. So what will the result be - that taxpayers of Newton pay monetary damages for the failure to stop this massacre? Just tragic all the way around.

Me thinks that what T Jefferson and the "framers" didn't realize at the time was that by the creation of a constitution would follow a cottage industry of attorneys to enforce the written word.

They should have looked around the room ... strange to have attorneys involved in drafting legislation...

The taxpayers of Newton (along with the American taxpayer in general) pay for the (national) State's black ops projects that crank out these automaton shooters like toy soldiers on an assembly line. Why not pay for the logical results as well?

The Mormons, whom you despise, may not have all the answers, but they have a healthy suspicion and independence of the State, they understand survival, and will be round long after their detractors are gone.

I don't despise Mormons. Hell, some of the best guys I knew in law school were part of the "Mormon mafia" that was there every year from BYU. Smart, polite, friendly, etc. And they could take a good natured ribbing about magic underwear ... And I don't fault any educator (or anyone) from wanting gun training.

But gotta admit, L. Ron Hubbard and Joseph Smith have probably had some pretty good laughs when comparing notes at that bar down below (or way up high)
